2025 was a very busy year for me, so I didn't play many games. One of the games I managed to finish was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. As a turn-based RPG fan, this was a title I had been anticipating since the first trailer dropped. When it released, I jumped in right away using Xbox Game Pass on my Xbox Series X.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has an amazing story, stunning graphics, beautiful music, excellent voice acting, and of course — the gameplay.

After playing for about 1-2 hours, I started to really appreciate the combat mechanics, especially the parry system. What makes it special? The game allows you to dodge enemy attacks, but the timing window is quite generous, making it feel a bit too easy. Parrying, on the other hand, has a much smaller timing window — but you're rewarded with a counterattack if you successfully parry all enemy attacks in a sequence. Even though some boss battles were tough and required several retries, winning with perfect parries was always incredibly satisfying. During the Lampmaster boss fight, I even stood up from my sofa and yelled "YEAH!" after finally beating him. So satisfying.

Unfortunately, I was very busy with work at the time and didn't have much time to play, so my progress was slow and I wasn't always playing at my best.

Nevertheless, this game still deserves a 5/5 rating from me. I hope other turn-based RPGs will incorporate this kind of satisfying combat element in the future.
